
Cardiovascular Surgeon
Dr. Saurabh Gupta's surgical interests are around complex valve surgeries (especially aortic root and aortic surgery) and transcatheter valve interventions, as well as atrial fibrillation surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Science Honours in 2011 and completed his Doctor of Medicine in 2015 - both from Western University. Dr. Gupta completed his Cardiac Surgery residency at McMaster University in 2022, during which time he also obtained a Master of Science in Health Research Methodology, focusing on Knowledge Translation. For his clinical and academic accomplishments during residency, Dr. Gupta was awarded the Dr. Paul Cartier Cardiac Surgery Award by the Canadian Society of Cardiac Surgeons. Afterwards, he embarked on a clinical fellowship in complex valve and aortic surgery at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute at the University of Alberta. Following this, he did a fellowship in transcatheter valve interventions and aortic surgery at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
Dr. Gupta also has extensive research experience in the field of perioperative care of cardiac surgery patients, antiplatelet/anticoagulant management of cardiac surgery patients, as well as atrial fibrillation. He has published many book chapters and manuscripts, won numerous awards for his research, and currently serves as site PI for multiple trials around atrial fibrillation.
