Cardiovascular Surgeon

Hailing from Manitoba, Dr. Craig Brown earned his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1984, and completed his training in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery there as well. This was followed by a two-year Gerbode Fellowship in Cardiac Sciences in San Francisco pursuing both research and clinical expertise in cardiac physiology, cardiac transplant, and mechanical circulatory support. Upon his return to Canada, he joined the New Brunswick Heart Centre in 1993, quickly establishing the clinical Cardiac Surgery database. As assistant professor at Dalhousie and Memorial Universities, Dr. Brown, while maintaining a full clinical practice in adult cardiac surgery, has also shepherded dozens of major national and international clinical trials allowing patients from New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island the opportunity to participate in leading edge research. He has served the broader community of cardiac surgery as Governor of the American College of Surgeons for this region. He continues to mentor medical students during their education. Outside interests include a life-long passion for nature and astronomy. To contact Dr. Brown, you can email: hc.nb@HorizonNB.ca or phone: (506) 648-7899.
