The New Brunswick Heart Centre Regional STEMI Program began as a pilot program in 2011. It was designed based on the research results of trials such as TRANSFER-AMI. These trials demonstrated that rapid transfer of STEMI patients to a tertiary cardiac centre result in the best patient outcomes. The program started with one referral hospital and has since been expanded to all hospitals throughout New Brunswick as well as Prince Edward Island. The program currently sees more than 600 patients per year and has been a great success with excellent patient outcomes.
