Cardiovascular Surgeon
Dr. Jean-François Légaré obtained his medical degree from McGill University (Montreal 1991-1995), and cardiac surgery training at Dalhousie University (1995-2002) and Herzzentrum Leipzig, in Germany (2003). Upon returning to Canada, Dr. Légaré joined the Cardiac Surgery Division in Halifax, Nova Scotia (2003-2016). During that time he was the Director of Research and Surgical Director of Transplantation in the division of Cardiac Surgery with Dalhousie University. Dr. Légaré is an established clinician scientist and Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University with cross-appointments in Pathology and Microbiology & Immunology. He has been recognized nationally for his leadership by sitting on the executive of the Canadian Society of Cardiac Surgeons and acting as current President of the Society (2018-2020). Dr. Légaré joined the New Brunswick Heart Centre in 2016 and serves as Chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery. Since 2022, he has served as the Medical Director for the New Brunswick Heart Centre.
